I went to Tom Hood too, in the early 70s. We lived in Davies Lane, I used to walk there and back alongside the Flats, past John Walsh and Fred Wigg towers, daily.
My first experience of attending 'big' games was at Chelsea - I had an Uncle who lived in Poppleton Road, he was Chelsea mad and started taking me and his son to games there when I was just a kid, but everyone else in the family and around me were West Ham, and pretty soon I was poached away to Upton Park and caught the 'disease'.
I can recall going to Orient a few times as it was literally 'just down the road' so to speak, but it never held me in awe like the Hammers. The best, and only, time I can remember at Orient was when Man Utd got relegated and it was their first away game the next season. All the shops etc were locked and barred en route to the ground, and it was pretty lively in B Road for the many WHU who attended (WHU were away on the day). I recall there was a bit of a collaboration of senior London clubs attending, which ultimately resulted in Utd fans being chased up the 'down' excalators at Euston... crazy shit.

My mate's relative plays Dan Happe plays for them. I don't know if they're close as he's only mentioned him once. My mates a Charlton fan.

Met a few over the years in and around Mile End, but most, like our support, are Essex based.

The last Os supporter I met was my Sainsbury's delivery driver. He has lived here in Liverpool for 30 years.

Literally never met an Orient fan in my life.

But apparently they fucking hate West Ham and like Spurs.

Yes H there certainly a lot of rivalry ! one of the games I played in was a warm up for England amateurs some decent players in that squad but in those days if you were big and fit you would play in those leagues I got kicked about a bit but I was fast ;-)

Hi TedJust read about your Leytonstone experience, my Dad used to take me to Walthamstow Avenue and at least 3 of their better players defected to Leytonstone that season,,one being Brian Harvey an England Amateur international, another was Dave Andrews who later became Dagenham and Redbridges President who very sadly passed away a year or two back.it was always a great rivalry .

Leytonstone, Wanstead, Woodford and Ilford has always been West Ham or Spurs (glory hunting Liverpool and Man U fans aside) with West Ham edging it. Of the hundreds I went to school with I only met one Arsenal and one Chelsea.

Spurs make up the majority in Walthamstow and Chingford and you might see some Arsenal there.

I grew up In Forest Gate in the 70’s. Use to meet up at the Harriw Green on a Sunday morning to play football… I remember Layton/ Leytonstone as West Ham and Spurs to a lesser extent. Don’t recall many Gooners.

Walthamstow was mainly Spurs though.

Use to go to the Dogs then hit the club Charlie Chans afterwards…… Had some good nights out there.

As a Leytonstone lad who went to school in the 80’s, (same school Bobby Moore went to in the 50’s), quite a few supported Spurs and Liverpool locally but I’d say West Ham edged it in numbers as Leytonstone borders Forest Gate and is much closer to Upton Park than White Hart Lane. No Chelsea fans at school those days or Utd, City or Arsenal.

Chigwell ~ Back in the 60's Arsenal weren't very popular anywhere, other than the diehard fans
I went to school in North London and nearly everyone supported Spurs or ManU
Arsenal were a horrible dirty boring side throughout the 60's
Spurs suddenly got a lot of support because of winning the double and a lot of kids, as they do now, like to support a side that's winning
The same applies to ManU
A small group of us took great delight in either of them coming unstuck and supported West Ham partly as a result of that
That was reinforced by one of the kids fathers,a diehard Hammer, would take most of us down to the Boleyn in his car
I think the other kids were a bit jealous of the camaraderie of our little group
We did sometimes go to watch Leyton Orient when we were away but never really supported them

I went to school in Leytonstone In the 60s.. Most of my classmates were Spurs. Two of us were West Ham. One was Orient, but he lived in Leyton. No-one liked Arsenal.

I played a few games for Leytonstone 1967 I left at the wrong time as they won the amateur cup in 1968 and even if I hadn't made the team I would have been on the coach ;-(

That area is part of the Arsenal-Spurs-WHU triangle.

Very few Orient fans.
